What: Digital Prize Challenges

NIWC Atlantic, in collaboration with OUSW R&E, released three (3) Prize Challenges:

• Low-Cost EMS Sensing Grid: The Department of War seeks an ultra-low-cost capability to densely seed commercial sensors across military training ranges to serve as a pervasive sensing grid to provide a real-time electromagnetic spectrum (EMS) signature monitoring system.
• Commercial Wearables & Smart Devices for Force-on-Force Instrumentation: The Department of War (DoW) seeks a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) capability leveraging commercial wearables and smart devices to serve as a low-cost, upgradeable supplement for bespoke force-on-force military training instrumentation.
• Distributed LVC Tactical Communications Bridge: The Department of War (DoW) seeks solutions that provide a Radio over Internet Protocol (RoIP) capability to serve as a “smart bridge” to convert tactical radio frequency (RF) communications into IP, route via disparate transport means, and introduce software-defined signal degradations to simulate electromagnetic warfare (EW) effects to support distributed Live-Virtual-Constructive (LVC) training.

The challenges follow a two-phase approach with the following timeline:

• October 30: Phase 1 submissions due from participants
• November 2 – November 13: Evaluation of Phase 1 submissions and down-selection for Phase 2 in-person demonstrations
• December 7 – December 11: Phase 2 in-person demonstrations at Camp Shelby, MS and winner announcements
• December 18 – December 31: Awards granted
